Description: The Trifid Nebula present both emission and reflection properties. The red area consists mostly of Hydrogen. The weaker blue area is the reflecting light from the wider structure. The prominent dust lanes give rise the object's name by seemingly dividing the cloud into its three lobes, although a deeper view shows additional areas that could be counted.
